How to record HD on the HVX?

I already know I am going to get the HVX200. I also know I will record in HD (DVCPro100). Question is how? The P2 cards are way too expensive. As far as I am concerned, not an option. That leaves the FireStore - not coming out until April - and DVRack Pro - no definite plans to support it yet thus likely even later than April. Are there any other options or is it P2 cards or wait until April for the FireStore? If that's it, I may as well hold off on buying the camera until the FireStore is out. By the way, the FireStore for the HVX will be sold by Panasonic.

Maybe this site needs to be redesigned so it mostly just consists of a huge red SEARCH button.

Pricing for the cards hasn't even been announced yet, so hold off on proclaiming that they're "way too expensive". We should hear full pricing and bundling details after the DV Expo press conference on Wednesday.

And the other cheap option for recording is to capture into a laptop, using FCP or Avid or Canopus software.

ha ha yeah true, good quote.

But listen to Barry.. There are some pretty good packages that are being put together.

Yeah watch what you here from the Canadian guys.. those Canucks are crazy heh heh heh.

But dont count out the 4gb cards everyone.. besides being cheaper, they facilitate the perfect size to offload onto a DVD-R.. to give to your client at the end of the day.

Thanks guys for informing me about the search button. Like I didn't know about that. My question already eliminated 3 options found in such searches. I am looking for an option that will let me use the camera out of the box in HD via some 3rd party hardware or PC software that is available NOW, not 4 months from now. I don't do Mac.

P2 pricing IS available now. Check the BH Photo web site. A bloody fortune.

I have to echo this. All flavours of DVCPro are incredibly easy with a Mac and FCP.

I agree...think seriously about it...take it from someone that uses both platforms.

With all due respect to B&H (which, as far as the HVX goes ain't all that much, since they also advertise the HVX as an "HDV" camera), B&H's P2 pricing has absolutely, completely, thoroughly *no* connection to reality.

REAL pricing will be announced tomorrow.

Looks like I have another issue in that Adobe doesn't support DVCPro yet but is "rumoured" to be coming out with support at the end of the month. I use Adobe Premiere Pro. No way I am getting a Mac when I already have all this PC gear.

Madmartian I hear you.. Apple seems to work with DVCproHD right now, and Adobe probally will be a little bit. Canopus and Avid support it now, and Vegas, well as we all know we can only wait and see what they do.. but you will have some options still on the PC platform.

Have read great reviews about Avid Xpress Pro. Perhaps capturing to a laptop PC (as Barry pointed out earlier) with software such as Avid maybe a solution for "NOW" or out of the box or whatever.

I can understand not wanting to switch formats when you have mostly PC gear.

However when trying to incorporate brand new technology like HD you got to expect to pay the costs for upgrading your whole operation.

If you can't afford the solutions available now then you'll just have to wait it out till something in your price range comes along. I'm sure you're not the only one so patience grasshopper.
