I tries searching around google and here but nothing give me a straight answer so I post a thread.

We are shooting on HPX170,with P2 cards.
We have a laptop (Dell inspiron 700m) with PCMCIA slot and a MacBook.
80GB and 500GB hard drive (Both Window format as of now).

We want to offload P2 footage to external hard drive through PC laptop, and then Edit on FCP. How should we approach this workflow, what do we need to be done?

Thanks a lot in advance.

The Mac will read the hard drives if they are formatted as Fat32, so all you have to do after offloading the P2 footage is connect your drive to your MacBook and ingest into FCP in the same way as you would if you offloaded the footage using the MacBook.

Yeah, basically, nothing needs to be done. Copy the cards onto the external hard drive. Just don't change anything -- copy the entire contents of the card, the CONTENTS folder, and don't rename anything. Then unplug that drive, plug it into the Mac, and import the footage.

Thanks all.

Few more questions
So if I want to view the footage on the Dell Laptop.
I need to download P2 viewer right?
And I need to update the slot firmware in order for the laptop to read the P2??

Since you have a MacBook and MacBooks do not have an expresscard slot, the duel adapter would not be an option. As far as I know, pretty much the only way to offload directly to a MacBook would be to connect the camera, which would be a viable option only if you didn't want to keep shooting to different P2 cards while the initial footage is being offloaded.

I have been using the same workflow you are contemplating ever since Snow Leopard broke the duel adapter driver, but with an old Sony Viao laptop and a MacBook Pro, and so far it seems to be working pretty well.
