How to mount a monitor to the HVX-170 threaded connection

Is it possible to mount an external monitor like the marshall V-R70P-HDA using the threaded mounting hole on the top of the 170?

I would not suggest doing this. it would be incredibly easy to accidentally hit the monitor, ripping out the threads on the HPX and shattering the monitor on the floor. I would suggest getting a proper monitor mounting solution that is safer and more solid.

V-LCD-MT-01
Camera Hot Shoe Mount. Attaches monitor to camera. Supports up to 5.6" monitors. $25.00

This works fine with my V-LCD70P-3GSDI.

The handle on the HPX is incredibly weak and flimsy (huge design flaw in my opinion), or at least it feels like it is. I get very nervous mounting anything on it. The clamp may be your best bet. I wouldn't trust the hot shoe either for anything more than a mic or small light. It's the weakest point on the handle and it feels like you could snap it by just pushing on it.

zacuto makes a little support that fits between the shoe and the camera body. but that only supports weight, not shear. im with DM, i wouldnt even think of mounting anything bigger than a mic or small light there.
