how to make 4:3 footage and 16:9 footage comatible in sequence

recently i've been shooting everything widescreen but I have a huge archive of 4:3 footage so sometimes on projects I reach back into my archive and use that old footage and it messes up my sequence to where the old footage doesn't reach the edge of the screen (obviously) because it's not widescreen so the question is how can I either make everything 4:3 or make everything 16:9 -- which one is easier?

hey I have found scaling up the 4x3 is easier and then it gives you the option of reframing vertically. Just scale it to 133 percent.
