how to learn the GH2?

What are some resources for learning the GH2?

The best option you have is "dvxuser" and actually using the camera yourself trial and error and you will eventually learn all the functions. Read through this forum and you will learn a great deal of things, members here are very useful and most threads have explanations about the option and the capabilities of the Gh2.

I'm new to both the GH2 and this forum. I've found that if you read the manual, try things out and then ask questions, they're very helpful here at DVX User. The GH2 is my first DSLR, though I've been doing video as a pro for a long time. I started right off using it for a theatrical production under trying circumstances and got some great info/suggestions from forum members.

+1 on the manual.

Hot Rod Cameras had a couple of good blog posts in relation to filming on the GH1. Maybe they'll post some for the GH2.

OK, I have a GH2 and have looked for the relevant information in the manual.

I don't see where the 14-42 lens' OIS is switched on or off in the camera. Anyone help?

Thanks. And a happy new year for those that celebrate.

I don't have the manual on me but I've seen it in the menus. It's blowing my mind because I can't find it either in the menu right now. I'll look later when I can attach the 14-42mm.

Edit: senior member! :D

This is something I learned a bit ago and find it real helpful. All my electronic gear, I go to the manufacturer website and download the PDF version of the manual. Adobe Reader has a search function, which beats the pants off of any table of contents or index.

I think you have to attach the lens first for it to appear in the Camera menu.

BTW, can someone confirm the stabilize on/off also appears in the GH1 menu? Thanks.

The 14-140mm has a switch on the lens itself to turn OIS on and off. the 14-42 should be the same. The camera does not have OIS itself.

No the 14-42 comes without the switch the 14-45 has the switch. The former has menu on/off.

Yes. And to answer my own question, the in-camera switch is only available when the camera is set to take pictures, not when set to video. Additionally, in picture mode there are multiple selections that will default to Mode 1 (unless switched off) when recording video.

By the way, love this camera. Much to learn but it repays constant study. Once all the functions are understood, the next challenge is light. Im aware of it in a big way, but the trick is to translate the vision into a finished product.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Amen to that.

The manual.
Reading the manual may be too boring. Read it in small bits with the camera beside you, then the next day see if you can remember what you learned the day before. Go from there. Before you shoot any video - find the thread on here about setting the camera up for video - it will be slightly different on the GH2 - but you will get the idea. Concentrate on how to get video from the start. Don't waste your time hand holding it and walking around. Always keep it stabilized and get an ND filter. .06 or .09.
