How to Impot Files in FCP

I just bought this camera and from what I've been told, FCP loads these files without having to convert them. I am trying to load my vids into FCP and I am having problems doing so.
Can someone help me through this or I have to convert the files first for it to load in FCP?. I know in Imovie, you just import the vids from the cam an thats easy, was hoping for the same thing in FCP.
 
You have been told wrong. Use Log and Transfer to convert MTS files into Apple Pro Res 422.
 
FCP does not handle the files natively.

However, workflow is determined by which Mac you have and which version of FCP.
