Had some issues with the firestore and fcp import. We need to get the raw P2 data of the backup files into Final Cut Pro, but here is a summary of what went down. Hopefully, someone has been through this before. Thanks so much.
IMAGE CAPTURE:
HVX-200 was set to 720P/24P
Firestore 100 was set to record in P2 files in PN mode (native frame rate).
The Firestore's firmware had been updated to version 3.0
I set the first recording timecode to be set, in record run mode, at
01:00:00:00, it ran cumulatively up every time we recorded material. The
gaps in the running timeode allowed us to find where footage had gone
astray.
There were a few points where we reshot setups because there was no record
indicator ensuring us that we were getting the footage we wanted, but for
the most part the Firestore was giving all of the indications that footage
was being recorded correctly (timecode was recording, clips being updated,
ect.)
P2 FILE IMPORT:
When it came time to dump footage I used the Firestore "Organize P2"
function as instructed to prepare the files for FCP import.
I copied the CONTENTS and LASTCLIP.TXT files into our backup folders on your
drive as per the backup instructions on te Apple P2 workflow whitesheet.
Then I attempted to import the P2 files into Final Cut Pro version 5.1.4
using the File>Import>Panasonic P2 method. Then:
We had a few clips that would not import with the message "Error Unknown".
We had a few clips that were described as "Clip Spanned", and I am not
exactly sure what that means.
5.1.4 is not the newest version of Final Cut Pro, maybe this has something
to do with it. But I have not had this problem on 5.1.4 before.
SUMMARY OF PROBLEMS
We simply have gaps in running timecode in the first and second data dumps.
The gaps mean that the footage is just not there. It does not appear to be
in the data backups either.
The first data dump, after we determined the footage was incomplete, was
redone. I used the "organize P2" function a second time and a few more clips
showed up. We had some redundant clips between dumps 1 and 2 but a few small clips showed up that were not there before. For the most part these were small bits of footage that bridged earlier clips. Many of the clips from both dumps were sped up with out of sync sound.
In the third and fourth dumps, all of the footage exists in the raw P2 data
format inside the backup files.
However, in all the data dumps (1-4) we have clips that are not importable
to Final Cut Pro, the error message is proclaimed as "Error Unknown". These
non importable clips exist, but were not able to be imported and used in
FCP.
