I just reciently bought a Hvx200 and am trying to capture the footage into Final cut pro hd 4.5 and my computer can not recognize the camera when it is switched into the p2 format. I have a powerbook g4 with OS X version 10.3.9. I am not sure if there is software i need to download to be able to capture the footage. Also I am not sure if It needs to be in VCR mode or in PC mode to capture. If any one has any suggestions that would help a ton.

i dont think fcp 4.5 was compatible with DVCPROHD... come on man, you have an HVX!!! pony up the duckets for the FCP6 upgrade - VERY MUCH WORTH IT!

4.5 is compatible with DVCPRO-HD, but not with P2. You should be able to capture footage over firewire from the HVX, but only in MCR mode, not PC mode.

I just purchased an HVX as well and had to upgrade from FCP 4.5 to 6... it might sting the wallet at first, but it's well worth it in the end. Especially getting the upgrade versions on soundtrack and motion... great programs to compliment the great new camera you have!

Place is in the MCR mode which is the HVX200 equivalent of VTR.

But why push a ball uphill.

FCS2 works well with p2 cards. Move to that version.

FCP 4.5 was called FCP HD, because it worked SPECIFICALLY with DVCPRO HD...was able to capture it via firewire from tape. Footage shot with the Varicam.

However, P2 support did not arrive until FCP 5.0.4.

When you do upgrade to FCP 6...which is a must if you have that camera...I have a handy quick import tutorial...
