How to have your 7D survive the rain, with a shower bag of course :)

Well i'm not going to let some rain stop me. Yesterday I tried using a plastic grocery bag (heavy duty) and it didn't really work that great. Today pulled out the shower cap and I gotta say was pretty impressed with the results. Works great with variable lens too

I posted a couple of pictures on my blog, let me know what you guys think!

cool idea. i thought the 7D was weather sealed though? or do you need to be using L series lenses to take advantage of it?

It's amazing that this camera is weather resistant BUT as my only camera, I'd rather use a shower cap to make sure it doesn't get wrecked (great idea Tim).

Has anyone personally had any experiences using the 7D under the rain without any protection?

And thats just it - I fully believe with no doubts this camera is weather RESISTANT, I will not bet my $2000 that it's water proof. And that's just the body. The lenses (especially those with IR or VS) are even more sensitive.

Direct impact of rain probably isn't good. But who would like to be the brave soul and prove me wrong :D

as someone who almost lost a 7D to direct impact, I'd recommend some additional protection. $2 on a rainsleeve to protect a $1700+ investment isn't absurd.

Rain Sleeve

I'm curious if this would create moisture that could cause a problem down the road or maybe even overheat the camera depending on temp.....

I wouldn't chance it, I'd just buy what best suits your needs or DIY ...

it's not a sealed bag, it still allows plenty of airflow. The camera's environemtally sealed, this just helps keep water from even getting to the seals. I've been using them without a problem, no abnormal overheating issues
