How to get classic movie footage to make a montage

Hey everyone! I'm a young editor, and I kind of wanted to make a tribute on youtube to my favorite 100 films of all time.
I was wondering how I would import footage of any of them into an NLE. Basically, what do I need to do?
Where do I get the footage and how? How do I turn it into a final cut pro file?
I have DVD's of most of them, and I'm by no means going to make ANY money from cutting it.
I just want to get these films out there, and make it.

thanks

1) Ripping copyrighted footage from a DVD is illegal.

2) Posting copyrighted footage on YouTube without permission from the copyright holders is illegal. Consult with an attorney specializing in copyright and intellectual property for more clarification.

3) "I'm not making any money off this" does not make it legal. Copyright infringement does not differentiate.

Everything Alex said is accurate, but if you are able to get the material you can possibly use some of it for a critique or exposition, depending upon the way you present it.
Like news shows, education. and blogs, some uses of copywritten material is considered fair use.
But this does not allow you to use anything you want. It's still complicated.
Here's some material on it: http://www.centerforsocialmedia.org/fair-use

Just a head's up here.
