How are people exporting screen grabs (aka. still frames) from thier footage. I've tried final cut pro quicktime conversion but that leaves it 4x3 then I tried the Movie to Picture in quicktime pro but that made it extremely rough edged like it wasn't antialiased or something. Lol this shouldn't be this hard I see screen grabs on this forum all the time.

Have had the same problem. What I did was Export using Quick time conversion and choose the still image option and a TIFF file. Then 2 different ways to get correct aspect ratio - (I have Photoshop Elements and Microsoft Word - both on a Mac):

Open in Photoshop and change the image size (deselect constrain proportions to start with) - you can start with 1280 x 720 and then play around with those proportions depending on how big you want the image.

Import the image file into a standard Word document and if you click on it there is a way of changing the ratio of the image to 16:9. I just did this by making the image 16mm x 9mm to start with and then locking the aspect ratio again and then adjust it on the page to the size you want.

This is all from memory so I hope I've got the methods right. This is all a pain I know to have to do this but whether there is a way of getting the ratio correct straight from FCP I do not know.

The way I do it is export using QT conversion, then simply open that file and
export a still frame from it using JPEG or other format. The aspect ratio is correct without any adjustment.

Quicktime pro is a very cool little app. You can do basic editing with it using the in and out points, you can apply simple grades and filters, add and strip audio, add/remove alphas, deinlerlace, scale and export any format you wish.

Or open a quicktime, choose a frame, Copy, open Preview, New file, and bobs your uncle it's there ready to do with what you wish.
You can copy and paste into a new eMail too, without even making a file anywhere. It just imbeds it.
