HOW TO EDIT mxf. HVX FOOTAGE? Help!

Hi,

I'll be shooting an action sequence this week with one of the other dvxusers of this forum, matt_g. I understand the p2 card puts the movie files into mxf. I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 NLE to edit my stuff. What should I do to be able to edit it. I've been told that I can use a codec or something like that but I"m not sure how that works. Could someone help me out here? I'd greatly appreciate it. THanks!

Get Raylight, or Serious Magic DVCPRO-HD Decoder, or CineForm. There are free trial versions you can download, but you'll need to buy one of 'em because Premiere doesn't support HVX files by itself.

Oh okay. So once I get one of these plugins/codecs, I'll be able to edit my HVX footage files in Premiere?

Caution - if you shoot in the HD formats (eg 720p) your machine still needs to be up to it to a certain degree.

I have found Serious Magic DVCPRO-HD Decoder to be most suited to a simple DV & DVCPro50 workflow and the CineForm Aspect HD Encoder more suited to HD - eg 720p.

Both had a few issues and learning curves attached but they do work with PremPro2

Oh okay. Hey one last thing - For the trial, is it limited in terms of features or is there just a time limit (Like a full 20 day trial or something). Are there any watermarks? Thanks for your time and advice. Really appreciate it!

There are no restrictions on functionality, but I believe there is a watermark if you use the trial version.
