I'm a newbie and borrowing a DVX100B and have a firewire cable (I think) to use, but where do I plug it into on the camera? How do I get the video on my computer. Any thoughts, links, would be appreciated.

the firewire goes into the opening for it on the front right of the camera, its under a rubber flap. the other end goes into the computer. if you are on windows use premiere or vegas or whatever program you have. windows movie maker can capture too i think. if you are on mac use final cut pro but if you dont have fcp imovie does the same thing i think

Thanks Steven for the information.

Alasken, I'm glad I'm not a bitter jerk with nothing better to do than hang around message boards sniping at people. Get a life.

i think he was just making light of the fact that a dvx is alot of camera for someone who doesnt know how to capture footage. I kinda thought the same thing when i read that but hey, im kinda jealous too b/c i wish i knew someone who i could borrow a dvx from. Just lurk around on this website for a while and youll learn how to take care of it and how to use it...until then...BE CAREFUL!!!!! oh yeah and i dunno if you talked to the person who's camera it is but you might want to talk to them and find out if its ok to capture footage with the dvx b/c generally that a no no...

If you are still looking for how to plug the firewire in make sure that its the right one. there are different firewire and if you have two bigger threads then there will be no place to plug in. I agree with cliff be careful. dont rewind on the camera and make sure it is ok to capture using the dvx. Also ask the person what kind of tapes they have been using and use the same brand tapes. Good luck.

Also, don't plug the camera in while the computer is on. You run the risk of frying your firewire port on the DVX.

I'm neither bitter or a jerk, but I guess that's a matter of opinion. No reason to get your panties in a bundle. For you to ask such a basic question when it's a borrowed camera is scary.
