how to copy video onto ipad for offline viewing?

Hi all. I first admit I am an apple idiot. I use my ipad for for my quadcopter and teleptompter and that's pretty much the extent of it.

I want to copy some of my videos onto my ipad so I can show people when I am out in the field and do not have internet access. I figured this would be easier than having to carry around a laptop....

I have gone through tutorials requiring itunes and still have no success.
I synced my MacPro computer to the ipad and then tried to copy (sync) the movies and they show up on my Mac in itunes as being on the ipad but I cannot find them on the ipad.

I do not know what to do. Any help would be appreciated.

Here is another one, Ipad = monitor for DJI so I have the same question.

Did you try transferring the files via usb or read via usb cable from memory?

That's one tricky spot with Apple's iOS: file transfer. So here are a few viable solutions:

First, please note that transfer to the iPad via iTunes has gone awry. I used to do this, and kept several videos on my iPad for client screenings and training workshops, and I am now trying to figure out how to regain access to them. With the introduction of iOS 10, Apple replaced the "Videos" app with the "TV" app, which blew out access to most things and even made viewing iTunes downloaded movies and TV shows a challenge. Videos manually transferred used to be under a "Home Movies" tab, and that no longer exists. The videos are still taking up data on my iPad, but there is no way to find them. This is a prevalent issue with lots of discussion on Apple forums.

So, since that process is pretty much dead in the water...

DropBox the video to yourself and save it in your camera roll.

Or, if there are videos on your camera card, there is an SD card reader dongle for iPad and it can pull videos from camera-formatted cards. These videos will be saved to your camera roll.

Thank you! I let my dropbox account expire and since I will update these demos from time to time will try the cable since it'll be faster than upload/download.

Thankfully I found the 30pin SD card reader online so I'll give it a shot! I didn't even know it existed before!

Yeah, Dropbox will work, or if the file is not too huge, you can just iMessage it to yourself. Once in iMessage, you can just save it to your photo roll.

After further exploration, my Home Movies are back.

Apparently, Apple didn't do much beta testing of the TV app before release and sent it out full of bugs. So, flipping my iPad into airplane mode and then launching the TV app forced the iPad to search internally for content since there was no WiFi signal. Suddenly, all my iTunes-downloaded TV shows and movies were there. Now, there's also a dropdown in the upper left-hand corner under which Home Movies appears. Lo and behold, everything was still there. Huzzah!

So, if you can get that to work, transferring through iTunes to the TV app adds some flexibility in storing and viewing videos.

But DropBox and the SD card reader are still great options.

Depending on how new or old your mac pro is, you should be able to Air Drop the files directly to your iPad. Very fast, super easy.

Thank you all again. I will try switching my ipad into airplane mode and then seeing if the videos can be discovered that supposedly were copied.
My MacPro is early 2008 running OSX Lion. I had to update the itunes the other day to connect it with the ipad. The ipad is ipad (3) I think with the old 30 pin connection.
I used my online storage account to email a download link and then accessed it on the ipad but it didn't work.
Don't .mp4 play on ipad?

I do not know what air drop means but I'll look into that also.
In the meantime the apple SD card reader has shipped and should arrive next week.

The Mac app "Waltr" allows you to drag and drop many kinds of videos and it'll transfer to your iPad without iTunes. The videos show up in the default Videos app.

Wow! Thank you for the all the help. You guys are great! I'm looking into some of these solutions. I should have posted this thread BEFORE I tried to figure it out on my own
