How to color correct?

I'm starting color correction on my film and I'm not dire of what I'm doing. I'm using magic bullet looks and I start with presets and adjust from there but I don't know when it's done, do you just go by instinct or is there a rule to go by?

Any good links to tutorials or instructions you may know?

Thanks!

Also, Stu Maschwitz, creator of Magic Bullet Looks and Colorista created a few basic tutorial videos that give you the principles of coloring and using the software. Id share the link if I had it, but check youtube.

I also third the Hurkman book!

I just purchased the book yesterday and is excited to read it. Also go on red giant TV, it'll have tutorials on their product. Don't know why you're buying it now considering Da Vinci Resolve has a free version.

@OP and NBside: 'coloring' archive at www.prolost.com, check out coloring, the posts show a really really efficient approach. Reading the coloring posts alone are good references and reminders that are very well written, and more than step by step walk through, are an indication of a very (IMO) balanced approach.

These are some of my favorites. There are others but not so much about color.

Still, it is not a manual.
