How to avoid a bad situation (fraud)

Just an update...
Been sending emails once a week to Michael riley and he has not responded to any of the last 3 emails I have sent.

Anyone from the Tampa Bay /Florida area who can help me out?

You need to call the USPS and start a fraud account. They have their own Postal Police and work on fraud cases.

The only thing you can do is file a claim through paypal but I am assuming you can't do that because you sent the funds as a gift? Other than that, I don't believe there is anything you can do short of filing a paypal claim. The lens you purchases was 675$? It is not worth your time and effort for that amount of money. You can file a claim with his local police or even the FBI since it crossed state lines but unless he has been reported multiple times, they would tell you to take it to civil court. Court obviously isn't an option since you'd have to fly to Florida and pay 200$ for court fees even if you win. Just take it as a lesson learned and move on to the next project. You've been spending weeks or even months worry about this. Not exactly worth the 675$ that you most likely will never see again.

He attempted to re-list and re-sell this lens on this community forum and also on EBAY.

TAMPAWOLF / TeachNotPreach / Michael Riley has changed his name in hopes he can still be helped in this community.

Changed his username to TeachNotPreach. We've got lots of more information pulled up and gathered on him. It's really not that difficult to find people on the internet.

He 'closed' the thread here:
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread...3-lens-listing

And attempted to remove his EBAY listing here:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Voigtlander-1...Wbt&rmvSB=true

Still isn't responding to any of my emails.

He has been reported and action legal action is taking place. All he needs to do is contact me to end this. The school he is teaching at has also been notified of his actions.

paypal gift is one of the many red flags in an online transaction. using it in an exchange of goods situation is a lie in itself. and doesn't do much to establish credibility (or wisdom) of either parties.

Possible PayPal scam unfolding...I sold a dvxuser buyer a piece of gear (Edelkrone motion control slider) they had it for a few months and launched a PayPal claim saying it was broken. It wasn't broken when sent. He won the paypal case since it was a he said/she said argument but then they didn't return the equipment. PayPal overturned the decision and I got my money back thinking it was over. Another month or so pass and I get a notification from PayPal about a chargeback claim made thru their credit card...looking for advice and worried that the buyer could end up keeping the equipment and taking my money...is that possible? Any advice would be appreciated!
