GH2 How the heck do I get this look?

I'm pretty terrible at color correction and I can never seem to get the look I'm going for. I don't want a hyper-stylized look or anything. I just want a basic, very clean neutral kind of look. Sort of like in this clip here:

(I'm thinking specifically of the interview scenes)

I'm just doing skits and stuff and I don't want them to be that orangy contrasty look that everyone with a 7d seems to be putting on youtube. I hate the Michael Bay teal/orange look.

Can anyone tell me how to get a more neutral look? Does it just mean a ton of soft lighting? Lower the red channel in the mids?

Right now I'm shooting in Smooth with everything at -2. I've heard that's better since it gives you the most room in post. But since I'm pretty terrible at color correction, should I be using a different color profile with a more built-in look?

Shoot a guy in a light colored room with many windows, put him in front of a window, maybe cloudy day... with either some reflector or daylight lighting in front... manual white balance... slight color correction...

That's just a pretty flat overall look. You could take any tungsten light, throw on a full CTB gel and bounce it off the ceiling. You'll just have a general directionless ambient daylight source like this. Get that in a room and there's no need to overexpose, just expose normally. If you need to just use a dimmer to bring down that tungsten light so it matches the outside in light intensity.

Gary,

I'll completely admit I'm a terrible colorist. Unlike a lot of guys on this board I don't want to be a DP or Colorist. I think I have a terrible eye for it honestly. But I just want to do skits and have them not look shitty. I only aspire to be mediocre.

That's why I picked this one. Because (to me anyway) it didn't look shitty. Not saying it's great but I think it's good enough and it doesn't have that orangey with super deep blacks look that I see coming out of most people's DSLRs. Also, I can't imagine they had a huge crew so I might be able to pull it off.

My problem is right now I shoot everything really flat (and I suspect I underlight it) then when I get in Colorista I have no idea how to get the look I'm going for.
