How much would you rent a 7D for?

I posted an ad to see if there was any interested in renting my Canon 7D and equipment and within 24 hours, I received 9 hits. I'm very skeptical in lending this equipment out. I was going to lend it out only to professionals where I could monitor the equipment on set although I really don't want to be on set every time I rent this out.

How would you go about doing this?

and

How much would you charge?

I have a 7D with the following equipment.

Lenses:
Tonika 11-16mm
Bower 8mm
Tamron 17-55mm

Glide cam 2000
Microlite
Zoom H4N

Thanks

The easiest way to weed out a real renter from a wannabe is to ask for a rental certificate. If they can't provide one, and you don't have coverage, don't be a fool.

Send them to NPPA.org and follow the links to a Hays Affinity rental insurance policy.

Or go there yourself and get a good policy--it ain't cheap, but a few rentals will pay for it.

You'll have to charge less than the big rental houses are. Here in LA, the 7D rate from the rental houses is $150/day with the standard pricing structure. I'm sure there are individuals on craigslist charging $100 or less. Better hurry before the T2i comes out. That should fetch $50 day for its price.

Boo LA

Boo LA

As we say here in Texas, you ain't in LA anymore. LA prices are never the standard for the rest of the country--we'd all be out of business at their rates. $275 minimum in Texas, well equipped. A la carte the price does get closer to $400. Will never understand why LA gives everything away.

$150 for the camera only. I think thats OK given that the camera only costs $1500. 10 Rental days and you'll pay off the camera.

Last time I rented a HVX200 in LA for $100/day and thats a much more expensive albeit older camera.

I am in a unique situation where I work for a television station's production department full time and am able to rent my 7D with lenses to them on occasion when we have a high-end commercial to shoot, about 4-5 times a month.

I include my 7D, EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6, EF 50mm f/1.4, EF 70-200mm f/2.8 and filter kit for $150 a day. The other equipment like a tripod, monitor, etc... I just use from our department. Nice way to make some quick extra cash for very little commitment.

I believe if you charge a fair rate, something that you are comfortable with, then you should be able to find some interested parties who would rather rent than own. That's at least been the case with my experiences.

Adorama NYC rents 7D body only at $55 per day, $75 for the weekend
they also have 10 cameras available
17-55/2.8 IS USM goes for $25 per day

pretty damn hard to beat them
