How much does it cost to replace/repair batterie tabs ?

Quite a few people. If you can show me where it says the tabs are covered for "at least 2 years" I would appreciate it.
I had a private e-mail exchange on the subject with Jan Crittenden months ago -- I asked because I have the old design and hadn't broken my tabs (I baby my gear), but was concerned about breaking them outside the warranty coverage.

I don't have that e-mail anymore nor would I post it publicly without her consent, but I was assured that Panasonic would cover broken tabs of non-gray market cameras beyond the official warranty period.

I know Jan has written words to this effect at dvxuser.com in the past.

But is this specific to Jan or is it Panasonic's publicly defined and announced warranty extension? Apple has done this publicly several times in the past.

Would copies of public postings here be sufficient to request repair after a year?

To me this lack of a clear statement from Panasonic that is accessed publicly is a real concern

Making direct inquiries to Andrew at Spec Comm or Jan at Panasonic would be a whole lot more productive than endless speculation. Forget about talking to other Panasonic reps.

Drop a line to both and you will be able to get a definitive answer.

Give them the details including the serial number of your camera and directly ask, "Is this camera covered for this defect?"

If it's covered, then great. Get it fixed. It's been done before as reported here and elsewhere, and there would be little reason to not extend the same level of service to anyone else.

If not, then that's one of the costs of doing business.

While that would be terribly unfortunate, you'll need to get it fixed if you need to use the camera. Or come up with some hack to keep the battery in place.

The negative publicity wouldn't be favorable to Panasonic in the long run, and from what I've read elsewhere that's not what they want, either.

So rather than continue guessing about the outcome, ask and act.

Good luck!

Jan hasn't responded to me at least on this issue via direct e mail. It's been two months since I asked for assistance via email.

Specialized Communication will replace for about $400.00 plus $120 for shipping/insurance on my dime.

The point being that Panasonic can easily remedy this issue with a post at its web site.

To me that is good customer service, not a hard thing to do, and consistent with the recognition that this is a design defect.
