How much do you think the Hmc150 price will drop

I'm hoping it drops at least $250 to $300 on the used market over the next 6 months. If it's out of production, I think that's realistic and can happen. When I can buy an HMC for $2250 on eBay or in the marketplace here - I'll be doing it.

I'd start getting interested in the HMC150 at close to $2250 also. Frankly, I don't consider it a true 1080 line camcorder (it simply doesn't come close to resolving that much image detail, regardless of recording format, yet does get pretty close to resolving 700 lines) - I shoot 720p60 mostly though, and I'd love to have an HMC150 simply for that, if the price is right. I just couldn't see paying over $3k, with the NX5 available at $4k, which has some pretty nice additional features and the ability to resolve enough image detail to take advantage of 1080 line recording when appropriate (not to mention the wide availability of cheaper batteries!).

I think it will drop a fair amount. When the HMC came out the DSLR craze hadnt impacted as much as today. I think alot of people who would be buying a new Panasonic AG-130\60 may very well be going down the DSLR route. Of course I know there will always be a market for this type of camera (I have two 150's and a 40) but I think it is somewhat diminished due to people going DSLR. Having said that, the HMC is still a very capable camera and in the current ecomonic climate people may be very wary to upgrade.

It's likely that the HMC150 will jsut fade away as a model.

Might not. The DVX is still with us. I think they may hang on to the model due to it being the last of the CCD market. Usually Panasonic tends to fade away by upgrading the numbering scheme, but these new cams are AC's not HMC's. (Of course these being CMOS they should have a new name). Only Panasonic really knows, but I won't be surprised if it stays around for a while yet. Probably be around till CMOS takes off and over comes the fears about CMOS.

Any word on how the damage in Japan might influence actual delivery of these new cams?

To a certain extent, the DVX still fills a niche though. Not everyone wants HD, or their workflow still dictates DV. The AC-series cams now shoot in DV as well and include firewire out. It wouldn't surprise me if the new AC-series cams kill off both the HMC150 and DVX100 from the product line.

That said, there are still enough CCD diehards that they may keep making them for awhile yet.

IOt took almost a year for HMC150 complaints to fully roll in so we'll have to see what the concesus is on these new cams once they are actually released to the actual buying public. :)

Me for sure... but seems like every new MOS sensor has improved or eliminated the common downfalls. Just a matter of time when most will be shooting 4k and remembering back to 1080p - just as I look back at 480i now.

I think resolution is dependent on computer speeds. Seems as soon as the common person could afford a system for editing SD, we had to upgrade to HD. SO when computers double in speed and HD capacity again then we'll see 4K. haha

I'm going to be selling my 150 and 40 and purchasing the AC130, so I hope the price doesn't drop too much. Looks like the new cameras come out in September.
