How long is Canon's product cycle?

How long is Canon's product cycle? Someone said it was 3 years, but that seems like a really long time for a new, improved 7D.

Panasonic seems to be on a 1 to 1 1/2 year cycle with the GH1 to GH2.

... says who? Has there been any announcement from Panasonic about a GH2?

The 5D Mark II preceded the 7D by, what, nine months? Wild guess? And it's still a current model. So if you're looking for an update to the 7D, maybe wait until the 5D gets updated, and then wait nine more months after that...

Potential new product announcements from Panasonic and Canon are like just about any other companies. The people who know can't talk, and the people who talk know nothing.

You should go by what you read on every internet forum, and take that as truth. I heard they're releasing the Canon 9D tomorrow btw...

Don't be a dick, all he asked was how long their production cycle usually is, not for specs and an exact release date.

The 7d is a Pro model so it's cycle is probably a bit longer than, for example, the Rebel series. The 5dmkii came about 3 years after the original 5d, but then the 7d is a new model/line so who knows when they will decide to update it (apart from Canon)!

Panasonic have made no announcement at all about a GH2 so you can hardly use that as a comparison. It was about 18 months from the G1 to the G2, but again, these are not pro models and they have a much shorter shelf life.

Go to canonrumors.com- they usually have it absolutely right about 24 hours before the release- that´s about as good as you´ll get....unless you get into industrial espionage bigtime !
