AC160 How is the face detection on the AC160?

I film a lot of conferences and use 3 cameras. So at times I need to leave the camera and check on the others. I know there is hunting issues with the focus. But for a speaker that is walking around on stage, how well does the autofocus or face detection work?

How does face detection work if there are 2 faces in the scene and one is close and the other farther away.
93% of the time it will be just one speaker.
Thanks.

It works okay, but understand that it requires automatic exposure in order to work. You have to put the camera in autofocus and auto-exposure.

As for multiple faces, it only focuses on what it considers the "primary" face, which is the closest/biggest one that is closest to the center of the screen. But you can tell it to balance exposure for solely the primary face, or to take all faces in the shot into account when it sets exposure.

IF you have a stage, stand on the left, and speaker walking around stage, would it be better to set autofocus or face detect? I would be shooting a little wide angle if I am not attending the camera at the time.

I have tried a few cameras now, and nothing compares to my HMC150, so that is why I am interested in the AC160? I know the picture quality is what I am after, just hope the autofocus or face detect does not cause problems for conference type settings.
Thanks for your help.

Suppose I start with a near object we managed to get in focus and I then zoom in.

As we watch the AF hunting, is it keeping the old focus until it has found a new one or is it mostly at the new focus and hunting on both sides of this?

I gather phase detection is a better technology for AF than contrast detection (what we have in the 160/130)

I was never able to prove to myself that AF worked across the board on my 160A, so I basically stopped using it. During testing of AF, I would often see a "bounce" as opposed to a continuous sweep back and forth.

Clearly we cannot say that the lens is following the meter

I found I could not rely either on distance (60 feet shows as 69 on my camera and the gap changes with distance so forget trying to use distance tapes or lasers - you end up having to rely on a good external monitor for focusing)

The technology used in the EOS C100 (just an example) seems to indicate one could actually make use of AF in camera like the C100
