How fast drives are needed for editing?

Hi. I'm in the process of buying an HVX and some extra stash. For dvcpro HD, how fast drives are requiered for the editing workstation? Is there any point in going for a RAID 0 setup, or is a single 7200RPM drive enough? Is it a case of "as long as it's enough, it'll do", or is it a case of "extra bandwith always helps".

I will probably be editing on Premiere Pro 2 or Vegas 6 (perhaps 7).

Extra bandwidth always helps... For editing DVCPROHD with just a few streams (Ide say about 4-5) of (720) on a 7200RPM it works perfectly, I'm pretty sure having RAID 0 will help with multiple streams if you are editing that way.

Thanks, but I'm afraid I'm not quite the nerd I thought I was... I'm not entirely sure what you mean by streams. Could you please explain a little further? Does this refer to the computer reading multiple files simentanously while editing, or is there more to it? Could you perhaps explain with an example?

Multiple streams means stacking video layers, or like when you have a dissolve from one clip to another it is playing 2 layers during the dissolve.
I have been able to do simple edits on my G4 17" 1.5ghz powerbook with a 5400rpm internal drive after importing P2 media using the 720/24pn mode in the camera. I just purchased an acomdata external 2.5" 80gb drive (5400rpm) that is usb or firewire bus powered. I hooked it up via firewire and was able to edit the same footage on that. Now I am totally mobile without the need for AC power. Well at least for a few hours anyway.
