how does the canon 7d stack up aginst these other hd cameras?

Where is the Dude? Take him to school, BG!

I've almost read the response to this question enough to answer it myself, but I'll wait for the pros to step in.

Gird your loins!

just because it looks amazing doesnt mean it is! I mean, what happens when you go to shoot resolution charts? Who will hire you then?

What for? "Video" doesn't say much, nothing to be exact. : )

Tell people what type of projects you want to shoot with it and people will be able to help you a lot more.

Best answer of the day^

Opinion: It only looks as good as the person operating it knows how to use it.

Rent or borrow one and do a comparison test for yourself. I'm not a "Videographer" so a regular video camera has no place in my stable. However I find the 7D to be a viable alternative to a Red One or film camera for use on very low budget shoots.:costumed-smiley-047

Am I the only one who doesn't see it? What other HD cameras are you referring to?

In any case, questions like these are very hard to answer without sufficient context as to what these cameras are being used for.

For example my younger sister's birthday is coming up--she's turning 30. Should I bring my Red camera to my mom's house, and lay some tracks for a dolly, and bring some Kinos as not to burn the cake. Or should I stay classy and just bring my small point-and-shoot, and not piss my mom off.

Again, context. What will you be using the 7D for, and how will it be post-produced and presented?
