C100: How does Canon 1dX compare to C100

Hello all,

I am wondering if anybody who has used both cameras can chime in and offer an idea on how the level of resolved detail compares between the 1DX and C100. I am assuming the C100 resolves a bit more, but with these cameras costing as much as they do, I figure it might be a good idea to pick your brains before making a decision. I do a lot of stills work to, and if the 1DX can hold its own against the C100, it would be nice to not have to carry around two cameras.

In addition, how about things like skin tones, dynamic range, etc etc. The reason this peaks my curiosity is because the 1DX is almost the same thing as the 1DC which has an amazing level of detail in the image. I'm curious how the 1DX stacks up along side it. For those of you who have used both, what do you think?

Thank you much in advance,
~Omar

The 1DX is similar to a 5Dmk3. The 1DX seems to be a little bit better.

The C100/C300 are something else entirely with sensors that don't debayer. Essentially perfect 1080p.

I still enjoy the image from my mk3 though, since it's very easy on the eyes and almost entirely free from disturbing artifacts. Colors are also very nice straight out of the DSLRs, to me.

The 1DC has three modes it can shoot in: 4k, S35 sensor crop 1080p and full frame 1080p. The first two are good and the last one not so much (by cinema EOS standards). It's the last one you get on a 1DX. There aren't many similarities between the actual video output on a 1DC and a 1DX.

1DC shoots EOS Cinema footage, like a C100 or a C300. The 1DX shoots DSLR footage.

I'm sure there are still sound reasons for you to choose a 1DX though. Good quality DSLR level footage can be used for a lot of stuff. And like I said: colors and skin tones are beautiful.

well. to be honest, just go checkout the 5D3 vs C100 video you will get the exact same sense of 1DX vs C100

Forgive my language but I dont see a F difference between 1DX and 5d3 in terms of video performance.

if you want a hybrid solution, go 5D3, you wont regret, for c100. Since I own c100, I think it is not worth to buy a C100 if you still like photography while under a budget.

lets presume C100's video score as 100/100, I think 5D3 is around 70-80/100. In terms of Image quality, C100 is just a little better in lowlight (a little !), much more detail, and a canon log (cinestyle is a similar solution), while color depth (420) is the same.

if you want great video, then start from 5d3, then go for scarlet or C300, then go for Epic/ C500. Dont even look back

a little off topic, In fact hackers (or you call developers like Magic lantern team) can hack 1DX firmware and make it a 1DC ( Somewhere I read online say that internal difference between 1dx and 1dx are minimal to no difference)

BUT (IT IS A HUGE BUT) , canon says they are so seriously with this software issue that if someone on earth dare to do it, they will choke him to death (I mean sue )

so dont even think about it.

Choosing the cam depends on what is your main job. I choose c100 over 5d3 because of the much more details and DR and sharpness and also the flipable LCD. After looking at the footage of 5d3 and c100, I firmly throw away the idea of getting 5d3. The image from c100 simply blow away 5d3. My job is mainly wedding and it makes sense to buy c100 over c300 which cost ard 2.5 times more.

I own both the C100 and 5D3 and prefer using my C100 because its easier to handhold and the image is alot better. I mainly shoot weddings, race events and commercial work and the C100 has become my workhorse because I dont have to have a million accessories and the audio is much easier to work with. I've been a photographer for roughly 10 years so I have to keep my 5D3 for photo jobs and its also a good backup to have to my C100 if something were to happen.

This past weekend I shot some stuff for Universal Studios for the Fast and Furious 6 social media compaign and handheld the C100 for the most part and the 5D3 was on the jib and also on the rig connected to 1 of the cars because Im not going to hang a +$6500 camera on a race car on the track even tho the mounts were secure. I would definitely recommend the C100 over the 1DX because the C100 is more of a video camera with the handle, onboard mic, audio controls and swivel LCD screen.
