How do you view MXF files on WinXP computer?

Thanks Thoff,
I ran the msinfo32 on drives and disks and a lot of info came up. it listed information on the various drives and readers, but I don't know what to look for. I will be away for a few days, so I thank you in advance for any further advice you can offer.

Do you see any disks listed that you did not know you had, or disks where the media type shown doesn't match the disk description? A media card reader or other removeable drive that shows a media type of "Fixed" for instance.

Also, under Drives, what drives other than "Local Fixed Disk" and "CD-ROM" (which includes CD and DVD burners) are there?

Thoff, I think you may be right. There seems to be a strange hard drive in the mix. It shows up, under drives as a maxter 250 gig drive, but it is not listed in the my computer menu. What should I do? Thanks

What does the Description say under Drives for that Maxtor?

You may be looking at an unpartitioned / unformatted drive. Right-click on My Computer and select Manage., then Storage, and then Disk Management. In the lower portion of the pane on the right, you'll see a list of all the drives in your system, what partitions are on them, and how those partitions are formatted.

All the drives should be shown as Online and Healthy. The format should be NTFS unless you have a good reason to use FAT32 (such as compatibility with another OS -- that's really the ONLY reason to use it).

Hello again,
I checked the disk management and it showed . . drive C: as healthy, Drive D: which is a partition of drive C as healty (formated FAT32), and it list one of my cd rom drives as a healthy drive.

This discussion is pretty old, but I have a question.

I'm trying to use Panasonic P2 viewer to look at MXF files already on my hard drive.

While loading the player, it asked which driver I wanted to load. My hard drive is attached via ESATA cable via a PCIe card, so I chose the PCIe driver.

I clicked install, and it said "attach PCIe hardware" (which was attached).

each time I clicked "okay" it came back with "attach PCIe hardware"

finally I clicked cancel, and it said the driver is loaded. It then let me install the P2 player.

I navigated to the HD and chose it as a "virtual P2", but nothing shows up in any of the windows.

any help??

I think you probably need to choose subdirectories that hold the copies of the P2 cards you've copied. Or you may need to change the view settings for the bins in the View menu.

I have the Abobe Production Suite loaded on my laptop which includes Premiere Pro 2.0. However, I don't see that Premiere Pro supports importing .mxf files. Does this mean I need to resort to something like Cineform's Aspect HD in order to edit video from the HVX?.

Keep in mind that CS2 is a few versions out of date. Premiere Pro has handled MXFs natively since version 3.1, and CS4 currently offers the best support for P2 of any NLE or suite.

(Which is not the same as saying it's THE BEST NLE/SUITE, so calm down. :) There are a million factors which go into THAT calculus and it's different for everyone's needs.)

FYI, you're quoting a post from about two and a half years ago!
