How do you show clients rough cuts (works in progress)

What's the best way to show clients your rough cuts?

Assume that you can't do it in person, would you send them a DVD? Post it as private with YouTube? Vimeo? What? and Why one way over any of the others?

Mods: move this if you know of a better place to post it. To me it's related to NLE since showing rough cuts is part of an NLE workflow. At least, it's part of mine.

For my commercial work, I put these on vimeo, passworded, and email them the password. Then I'll get back - extend shot at 1:05 to show operator unloading machine. Please take off the end of the shot at 2.15 as it shows a worker doing a process they should not do in the back ground. Far easier than DVDs and the post.

Vimeo with a password. Why not YouTube? Because I hate that when a video is done playing it shows a dozen other videos that have nothing to do with mine. Vimeo looks far more professional.
Also, burning in a timecode over the video is a good way for the client to reference exactly what shot they're talking about changing instead of "that shot with that guy doing that thing". The visible timecode also prevents anyone from using it before it's finished and paid for.

Unfortunately, most of my client's (producer) clients are corporate types with PCs so I have to make wmvs/mp4s in low rez and email the rough cuts. Or if they need higher rez, ftp them to my client's server as security issues wouldn't allow for posting to YouTube, Vimeo or even Dropbox.

Vimeo with a password or a private YouTube link. I also burn in a timecode over the video, it makes it easier for them to pick out things they'd like to change and for me to understand them.

Now that is an excellent idea.

Most corporate firewalls that block Vimeo still let Vimeo Pro get through. Nice for those poor marketing people that are expected to curate a YouTube and Vimeo channel but IT doesn't allow them to access it.

Anyone use Sony Ci? I signed up for a basic package when they launched it a few months back, but haven't used it yet.

I came up with something I called "clicklink" to use for clients. It was very easy, elegant and was sent by email.

All it took was to upload the video file to my server and add a direct link to the video in the email. I used QT most of the times but I guess mp4 and such will work just as good.

The replace video option on Vimeo makes it easy for people to view the video revisions after comment, especially if they are not directly communicating with me. Can't even count the number of times someone was requesting edits (again) on the old draft! No mistakes if the same link brings them to the latest revision. That alone makes it better than YouTube for showing drafts.

Just to switch gears for a moment since the overwhelming response is Vimeo for client work.

anyone running into issues with music copyright? I have seen a video get flagged only once to a co-worker. (Michael buble in a wedding highlight vid or something). I know there was a bunch of uproar a few months ago.

ive certainly used music for private & public vids with no recourse.....yet. As mentioned YouTube allows it with pop ups & ads.
