How do you sharpen the soft video of 5D3 (premiere CS6)

canon confirmed for me yesterday that I will certainly see compression artifacts with IPB and that if card space is not a concern, definitely use all-i. He also recommended faithfull with sharpness pushed to 2 and most NR and enhancements turned off (except high iso NR set to low)

just for the record.. ALL of the blocky artifacts have disappeared now I have switched to ALL-I codec. Whoever wrote all over the net that IPB is just as good and there is no point using ALL-I owes me a few hours of my time back!!

When the 5D3 first was released, IPB was clearly better than ALL-I: example images showed the issues with ALL-I (macroblock artifacts). While part of the issue was likely related to NLE decoders at the time, it's possible Canon made firmware changes as well. For low-motion shots, IPB and ALL-I will look similar. For fast motion, ALL-I, when paused and pixel-peeped, will look better (however during playback it will be hard to see a difference). 720p always looks better with ALL-I. For 1080p, if shooting low-motion, IPB will save quite a bit of disk space. In any case, Canon could improve their DSLR H.264 encoders, as Canon (C100) and Sony (FS700) 24Mbps H.264 encoders show.
