For me at least, the first step to judging proper exposure is adjusting the monitor screen brightness to match the ambient light. On my Panny TM900, I would use -1 for nighttime, 0 for normally lit interior shots, +1 when taking pictures on bright overcast days and +2 for working in sunshine. At the moment, I'm trying to figure out which monitor settings work best with the GH3. There are many more increments, the changes are more subtle, and the screen doesn't seem to get as bright as on the TM900, though I haven't done any side-by-side comparisons. From my first tests though, it appears that the camera meter tends to overexpose by around 2/3 stop. Ideally, if the screen is calibrated correctly, when correct exposure is achieved, the image on the monitor should look neither too bright nor too dark. Since I've never seen this brought up before, can I assume most people don't change screen brightness according to the situation?
