How do you handle «1088p» footage?

Evening,

The Canon DSLRs are recording with 1920x1088 instead of 1080.

How do you handle this when cutting?
We had some reports about black bars when editing Canon DSLR videos in kdenlive recently, which is because the videos are scaled to 1080 px height, making them less than 1920 in the width (unless you're applying a crop effect to each clip, cutting off 8 px from bottom or top).

Does this problem exist in other video editing applications as well? Or do they just ignore the 8 bonus pixels at the bottom?

The reason no one here has seen it is because most software intentionally rounds down to 1080 (usually via cropping or simply telling you otherwise and still working in 1088).

1088 exists in all technicality because 1080 is not divisible by 16, making it a bit problematic for compression. This is also a problem for interlaced streams, but obviously that's not the case here. Examining any T2i stream in DGAVCIndex will show you 1088.
