How do you film with the T3i in "manual" mode?

On my T2i, you could not record video unless you turned the dial to movie mode. Once there, you could manually adjust just about anything you want -- with:

1) the Q button and the thumb wheel (e.g., White Balance, Picture Style, Auto Lighting Optimizer, still photo quality, video quality and the AF mode), or

2) the menu button and drilling down in the movie menu, where you can switch between Auto and full Manual exposure in video mode

Part of the reason I traded my T2i in for a GH2 is because the GH2 has a dedicated movie button that allows you to start recording video without having to turn the PASM dial all the way around to movie mode.

Good luck with the new camera! If i ever buy another mirror-box DSLR, it would be a T3i.

Hope this is helpful,

Bill

P.S. -- You might get a better answer for this is in the dedicated HDSLR/Canon APS-C forum. This forum is primarily for Canon camcorders.

exactly, turn the dial to the liitle picture of the movie camera, voila, your in manual movie mode. It's that simple, then you can adjust settings from there just as the above poster stated. I have both, the gh2, and the t3i. So im still trying to get used to the gh2, and it's small body, but I can say for sure, the feature set is amazing. this thing can wash your dishes and take out the garbage. Im thinking the gh2 will be the cam I grab when doing run-n-gun shooting.
