i am new here and i since i've been working with DV, i have to idea how to use P2 cards. How do you import the video from the card into the computer (in detail) and what software is used to edit the video? is there a special way of capturing the P2 media into the software? Thanks for the help!

p2 media will mount to your computer just like a drive - copy entire folder structure to pc or you can just edit directly from the cards without transferring the data. Most NLE's will edit MXF's (the files on a p2 card), some will require translation to another file type. Best do your research on that one. Importing footage depends on the NLE, but I believe most just rely on your importing the footage as you would any other footage.

there is a lot of writing on this subject, even on this very forum. If you read around you will find your answers pretty quickly, and probably learn heaps of other stuff too.
Probably worth downloading the HVX manual too, and I haven't heard a bad thing about Barry's HVX Book (I'm ordering one tomorrow).
Do some searching and just general browsing on this site and you'll pick it all up.
