Set device control in capture settings to "non-controlled device" then as long as your camera is sending via firewire to the computer you can capture right from the camera using "capture now."

Thanks Chris,
However...if you have a mo or indeed the inclination could you elaborate;
As in where in FCP would I find these settings?
Thanks for your help:)

Open FCP, start a new project, and then open the "Log and Capture" window via the "File" drop down menu. Then enable the "Capture Setting" tab on the top right of the "Log and Capture" box. Then set your "Capture/Input" to the appropriate setting and set "Device Control" to "Non-Controllable Device."

As long as the "Log and Capture" box is open and the camera is sending a signal into the computer via Firewire, you should see an image in the preview window.

All you have to do is click on the "Capture" "Now" button on the lower right and then stop capture with the ESC key.

At least that's how I remember doing it the last time I used that method.

You need to MATCH your cam settings with your FCP settings, or vice versa.

And I stated, this is possible for anything that streams out Firewire. pNative modes do not, so you cannot set the cam to pN anything.
