How do I test a PCMCIA slot?

I'm looking into buying a G4 powerbook for downloading P2 cards. When I buy the laptop (probably from craigslist), I want to test the slot to make sure it detects the P2 card. Should I bring a P2 card and just pop it in to see if it comes up or is it more complicated than that?

Thanks,
Andrew

It won't work without the appropriate P2 drivers installed, I believe. It may show up in the top menu bar (you'll see a card icon), but it may not show up on the desktop. In my experience, if the icon shows up on the top menu bar, the card is recognized and the slot works. You may not be able to access the card without the drivers, however.

Thanks...yeah, for the purposes of testing it, I wouldn't need to access the card. I would just need to know that the computer can see it.
Anyone else know for sure about this?
Thanks again...

I just picked one up used from a local toronto dealer - they tested the slot for me, and there is a warranty... whatever you save buying on craigslist is not worth it IMO for big ticket used electronics...
