How do I downgrade resolution? DVX100b "THIN" mode. Flicker artifact on SD b/c hi res

I heard that you would get a flickering artifact when you play footage shot on "Thin" mode on the DVX. I shot on "thin" mode because it gives the most resolution and the project I shot "might" play on the movie theatres and I heard thick mode isn't good for projection on a huge screen like that. So I shot thin, and I heard that I can always downgrade the resolution in post production. But my question is how do I do that? And what exactly do I need to do? What resolution do I need to set it at to play the best on an SD tv screen broadcast (and how do I even downgrade the resolution?). I edit on an Avid.

Thanks!

JM

PS: If high res causes a nasty flicker artifact on SD screens... what about the HVX? Isn't that using high resolution, and does that mean that shooting on an HVX wouldn't be ideal for SD broadcast?

If you're getting flicker problems, you just add a slight blur to your footage in post. That's all MID and THICK do, anyway.

I'm using an Avid. And i am shooting on a dvx100b.

I shot Thin mode "just in case" this project goes on the big screen or larger projections -- I heard thin mode was best because the higher resolution.

But thin mode is bad for broadcasting on an SD tv screen (interlaced) as you get a flicker effect and that is why it is recommended to shoot Thick mode.

So if I wanted to broadcast on an SD tv (after having shot on thin mode) and not get the flicker effect, how would I do this?

Will "remove interlace flicker" downgrade the resolution to make it suitable for TV broadcast?

Does Avid Xpress HD have this plugin?

Thanks.

If you can find a Reduce Interlace Flicker plugin, that's exactly what you need. If not, do you have any directional blur filters? I believe it is basically a vertical-only blur with a radius of .5 or .7. It's fairly subtle.

Ah ok, I'll check for these on my Avid when time to edit.

By the way, why would "higher resolution" = interlace flicker on an SD TV screen?

Does this mean that an HVX or HD cams will also produce flicker on an SD tv screen?
