how do I burn an .mpg?

I downloaded a video I want to burn to dvd, but iDVD won't let me drop in an mpg. I tried importing it to FCP and exporting it as something else, but when i drop the clip inot the timeline it doesn't have sound.

Any ideas?

Load it to iMovie and then export from there to iDVD. Alternatively, download the ffmpegX and create an S/VCD, which has as its native format the mpeg1.

it gets all the way importing (its a big file) and then crashes right before it finishes.

nope, it converted, but again with no sound. Anyone know why that is?

ok, sorry for the dumb question, but, did you have the sound tab checked in the export settings in quicktime?

also, you could also try exporting just the sound out of quicktime by selecting export "sound to wave"...then line it back up in imovie...

You might give MPEG Streamclip a shot. It will demux the mpg4 clip to an m2v and an AIFF file. Those can then be used to build your dvd.

ok, sorry for the dumb question, but, did you have the sound tab checked in the export settings in quicktime?

i didn't notice a box to be checked...

but now i have bigger problems. The original .mpg now doesn't have sound! what happened?

actually, it's not only that file, now ALL .mpg's don't have sound. WTF? I've restarted and they still dont have sound.
