AKG Blue Line Actually Costs More At RVA

Sci Fest is over and done with. I'm sure you can rake up an additional 9 posts in time for Hero Fest at the end of May. I think I have 10 posts today just with the clunking sound threads.

Yankee, that is funny. How about we do this. You guys looking for something. Ill help you find the lowest price. It doesnt take me much time at all. Ill pM the price and its up to you if you want to deal with them. That can be my role on this board if you like.

There you go. Think "pricegrabber.com" but someone to negotiate when needed.

You're on! marquee is now my personal pricegrabber.com! Woohoo!

Seriously, I'll take you up on that in the near future... if my plans for upgrading audio equipment fall into place.

marquee, if my normal people fail to deliver or if I'm strapped for cash then I will certainly take you up on it. Here is a decent test though, what's the best price on the 4073a?

Yankee,

The best price right now for an AT4073a (brand new, from authorized dealer) is 499.00. I have posted this many times before. Location Sound. They will say 550.00 initially though. I bought mine there for that price and I think I could have got it lower, though. Who knows.

You can also buy the Rycote softie (12CM, medium hole) for 97.00 there as well. I bought my KSSM for 99.00. They are not as bad as guitar center, but you can negotiate the price with them.

Ill see if i can get the AT 4073a cheaper than 499.00. Give me a day.

I got my KSSM from them for $100 and got good service from Val. They sent me hardbands instead of softbands and he overnighted me the softbands and let me keep the hardbands. I've been impressed with them. I just wanted to see if you could find a way to beat the $500 from location sound.

UMM...I was just wondering if anybody could answer my original qustion which started this thread which was, how can you save 40% off AKG Blue Line as Matt originally said in another post and why is the price higher at RVA if there is supposed to be a strong US dollar against the Canadian dollar. Yes, I have asked RVA that as well. Waiting for answer.

And Yankee, how did you get Marquee to start looking for a lower price for you on a mike you already own when I'm trying to get my first mike? :)

I'm starting to feel like Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction - Any of you own a bunny rabbit?

I want him to look for a lower price because I can unload my 4073a for what I paid for it.

To answer your original question, Kelly, call your bank or credit card company and find out what today's exchange rate is on the canadian dollar. Then call RVA and ask if they can lower their price or ask them how much the mic is. If they say $400 canadian then that is really equal to $307 (if you get a 1.3 exchange rate). Pay them and have them bill you $400 canadian and your bank will administor the exchange.

The last price I got from them on the Se300b & hyper was 225 & 225, so 450. If you get a 1.3 exchange rate then that is $346. If you get a 1.15 exchange rate then it is $391. It all depends on the exchange rate. Call your bank and the credit card company. It all depends on the strength of the US dollar and Canadian dollar at the time you make your purchase.

I am a lot older than most people on the audio board. I have worked one of the most rigororous jobs in hotel management. Ritz Carlton Buckhead 1993, before Marriott got their hands on it. Granted there are some things people need to pay more for service, but not microphone equipment. That just doesn't make sense. I think Matt In STL can attest. If I am wrong, then i will never post again.

Any tax questions, please post.

Ok, I don't want or think possible to prove you wrong since it is all about one person's opinion. Certainly don't want you to stop posting :)

But...

First, I do not mean to say you will pay more at the smaller service orientated houses. I have actually saved money buying from them overall. On a few items I might pay 5 or 10 dollars more; max. On big ticket items I often get sweetheart deals that save me a hundred or more dollars then if I was dealing with someone who doesn't know me. So in the end I save more money then buying at Walmart type houses.

People looking to put a couple of pieces of mid-priced gear together won't have this same experience but also will probably pay the same price as they would get anywhere else. MAYBE a few bucks more.

Now for why service matters for people like me: Time and time again my dealer has pulled my butt out of the fire. I have her personal cell phone that I can call 24/7 for help. I have yet to bug her at home but it is good to know in an emergency I can. Equipment breaks or does queer stuff on you all the time. My 416 developed some awful noise many years back, I had to send it in for servicing and my dealer gave me a replacement for free while I waited for it's return. Same deal for any of my equipment that needs service. My TC slate needs to go in at least once a year for repair or to be tuned.

One of the sections on my $700 K-tek boompole was recently crushed. I figured it was time for a new pole. My dealer made a call to the owner of K-tek and within 4 days they had shipped me a new section for free (didn't even charge for the shipping). Pole was way out of warrentee and was destroyed by abuse not defect, and they took care of it. B&H would not have done that. I have an old Lightwave shockmount that was broke and since they were bought out by Rycote the product was no longer made. My dealer was able to get the part I needed to fix: they had a bunch of parts lying around that they weren't using anymore.

I am able to get honest feedback on new products and my dealer is going to send me a Tascam HD-P2 and the new Schoeps shotgun (sweet) to test out on a feature I am doing this March. All for just the price of return shipping. Sure, she is hoping I will buy these products but, again, I won't get this type of service at places like B&H.

Not everybody needs this type of service but IMHO it is completely worth it. Again, in the long run I still pay less and get the service to boot.

Cheers

LMAO

I will not be ignored, Dan...or Yankee, Marquee, Matt, etc.

Sorry, I have never bought gear from Canada so I have nothing inteligent to add. Please don't stick me in the pot!

That was an awesome post Wabbit, and exactly the point I tried and failed to make.

Ultimately for me, I show loyalty to the places that have taken care of me, and to the rest... Anyone remember that GnR song 'Get in the Ring'?

No you made the point just fine, I was only reinforcing it. The Walmart analogy has me wanting to take this already OT topic in another OT direction. I will resist.

Sorry Kelly. :)

Hi Kelly,
I almost bought a ck93 recently but went with the Oktava instead. I'm considering the AKG for future. Anyhow, I checked with RVA and it literally took them over a week to get me a price quote. They said one of the partners just up and split with a ton of information so they couldn't get a price quote. The guy I spoke with (not Ian - but a Bryan maybe?) was very apologetic and twice promised to get me a price next day but in the end it took about 10 days just for a quote. It sounds like a simple stroke of bad luck and bad timing but it made me uncomfortable that my order could also be delayed god knows how long (10 days for a simple quote - how long to actually get something shipped?)

I also got a $420 quote (canadian, of course). The day I checked online the exchange rate came to $365. Then tack on $20 for a wire transfer and then consider that things were obviously in a bad state there and I decided to pass. Kind of glad because it gave me time to settle on trying the Oktava which I really like. Again, their problems were probably just a result of horrible timing - the guy basically told me the store was in a total clusterfuc* due to one of the owner's leaving. I'll still keep them in mind in the future, though - hopefully things will mellow out there.

Wabbit, while you are the most obvious candidate for putting in the pot, I'm not going to because you got the referrence. You will be allowed to hop around here with immunity.

OK, so now that the AKG is off the list because of my budget (still need case, lights, tripod, new computer, getting Matts cables, Lav) it looks like I'm going with the Oktava hyper and Rode shotgun.

(Maybe I should do this in another thread but I'll give it one try here) Speaking of Lavs, I was waiting for the Lav Shootout but the Countryman B3 was suggested by Matt as a good one for the money.

But in one of his post he stated that you can run it with a "break" so you can use it later for wireless. This is a technical thing that is new to me since I've never used a wireless before.

How does this work? Can you have a lav with an XLR and also have it with a 3.5 mini jack so it can be used cabled or wirless and what is a break?

Also, can you turn an Oktava and a Rode shotgun into a wireless.

Why would you want to? Well, if you were doing a party and you had to walk around in a crowd and get comments from people and wanted to boom them with a boom person and didn't want to have a cable for people to trip over. So, how do you do this? One of the Sennheiser G2 kits I know but what are the specifics?
