i have a canon hv40 HD camcorder and i noticed a small red dot in all of my footage. i did some research and found that its called a stuck pixel. now im not talking about a dead or hot pixel. those are black or white. i have a stuck pixel. these are red green or blue. people often confuse dead/hot/stuck pixels. i was just wondering is there a way to fix this my self? (not in post) i heard about this firmware that canon uses to fix this.

I dont think theres any way to fix a stuck pixel on an hv40. There is on a t2i. Maybe they can mapo it out, but thats most likely a trip to the repair center. There is some software that will work , but it's a pain in the butt. Better than nothing I suppose though.
Yeah, this commonly happens with all kinds of camcorders. It generally just involves a reset, not very different from restarting a computer. Every cam has a different way of achieving that reset though. I had to send in my old JVC cam for what I thought was a dead pixel once, and the guy at JVC who repaired it called me and said it was just a matter of resetting it and said that if it ever happend again to call his number and that he would walk me through the procedure over the phone. Maybe you'll get lucky and the Canon guys will do it over the phone too.
