Hello everyone !

I live in Cuba, where everything is extremely difficult. Internet access here is very limited and dialup are 3kb/s so I have no reference from youtube or vimeo of other´s people work. I would like to get some feedback and opinions from my videos, since I will like to improve and learn. I have not attended any kind of school or anything, just basic knowledge from forums like this one and stuff I have read.

Gear is: 550d, Tamrom 18-270mm+uv, Canon 50mm f1.8+ub, Tripod and Video Head, Sony Oncamera microphone, No FollowFocus, stabilization holding folded tripod (sometimes borrow an H4n)
Edditing PC: Core i3, 8Gb @ 2000mhz, 250gb, 1tb, 2tb, 23" LcdAgain, thanks to everyone...Ee

BTW: Youtube, friends, comments, subscriptions and likes are welcome and very apreciated !

Welcome to dvxuser!

I only viewed the first, and i found the start ok, the close ups and cut away shots were ok, but when i got to the part where there were to many abrupt cuts and sudden zooms I got dizzy. I was interested with the subject matter, and was reading the subtitles, the fast cuts was distracting me. I think you have a lot of room for improvement as some of your angles and framing are ok.

I'm sure more members here will give you more comments, brace yourself and just take it positively.

Enjoy your stay here in DVXUser.

Welcome. I only watched the first as well but I thought it was just fine. You're telling a story. And the story are these interesting characters playing dominoes. And they did keep me engaged. I liked the personalities. I would suggest focus on the story. What are you trying to say and let that lead your shots. Is this for an ad campain? If it is I want to see more than just that one setting. I personally started thinking about these interesting characters and how they all arrive here. Is it in the morning? If that's the case then I'd like to see the sun rising. Getting coffee. Busy streets. And following these characters in. I want to know more about them. I want to live this country through them. Where they come from and who they are? As far as shots I'm fine with it. I'm always looking more at the story of it. Show us more of the country. Give us more, especially if it's for a travel video. We want to see things. The trees, the sights. Is there water nearby? Show us anything that's breathtaking. Architecture. Interesting transportation. Something that will give us a sense of it but keep that personal and tied to the characters if you can. As far as the dominoes - I love it, but it's a bit long. I would cut it to about 1- 1 1/2 minutes. Hope this helps.

I loved your videos, You captured something I have never seen, which I found interesting. I didn't really pay much attention to the production value because the subject matter captured my attention. So thats a good thing. Keep shooting. Would like to see more of your vids about Cuba. Lota fun to watch. Thanks for posting:)

Thanks

Thanks

In general I have noticed in edditing that I am limited due to spoiled shots because of the vibration and out of focus (the focusing ring on the Tamrom 18-270mm is very innacurate and has some play), althoug I would have used some longer shots (specially in the dialogs). Thanks a lot for your reply.

It would be great if you could watch the other videos and give me your opinion of the flaws you think might be common to all of them or to specific ones :)

Thanks a lot for your reply !

Hello story2rewrite: Thanks a lot for your post, this was actually a video I did as I found this people paying in the park, the goal is to target search phrases in you tube like "Cuban Dominoes", I will make more detailed and comprehensive video about the santiago city in the future couse I dont have all the footage I need (as you say, to reflect more of the city).

Please try to view other videos, I am very interested in your opinion
Thans again

i watched 3. they are decent. lots of improvement can be made...for example steadier shots and using your tripod more. Some nice establishing shots panning and with proper framing goes a long way. Also if you can get a constant aperture zoom lens ..this would be beneficial as you like to zoom alot. That lens you have flickers as the aperture changes when you zoom. keep doing your thing.

Thanks a lot for your reply, you are welcome to susbcribe to the youtube channel. I am glad you like them and your words are very motivating, so... thanks again :)

Thanks Jambredz, will pay attention to you advices as I admit I akways shoot in some kind of semicouncious state of mind. Constant aperture lens is out of the question... too expensive.

I will have that option in mind, but right now I am trying to save for a Canon f100, or maybe any new camcorder that shows up in that range from canon in 2012.Thanks for your time ;)
