C200: How are you going to protect the touchscreen on your C200?

Unlike the "fold into body" solutions on the C100 MKI and MKII and the fold up clamshell on the C300 and C300 MKII, the touchscreen on the C200 is "out there" on it's own. In playing with it, I can't even find a way to fold it into the C200 body without it potentially gouging itself on the tape measure hook, or on the mic holder riser on the monitor arm if you fold it up there. So how are you going to protect your C200 touchscreen when transporting it? I am thinking some kind of Neoprene sleeve like my small Small HD DP-6 came with, only smaller. Not sure if someone sells that? For a little $700.00 monitor hanging out in space, you'd think there might be a better solution for shoving this camera into a camera case, backpack or Pelican case for transport without having to disassemble the whole monitor arm?

Loren Simons, if you see this, what is Canon's recommendation on how to transport the C200 without scratching up the touchscreen? it seems like no matter which way I fold it, under pressure, riding in a case, it seems as of the camera body will potentially gouge or scratch the screen?

These are the ones I have, but will probably be a bit too small for the C200's screen. Should cover most of it though:

Or a DIY kit:

Have also used the ones from Atomos, which are nice. Could cut those too:

That's just from scratches though. Transportation-wise...I would wrap it up with a soft cloth.

At least removing/adding the screen doesn't require tools (right?), so you may be better off separating it for travel. This is a major design flaw though, particularly for a tiny camera. To take advantage of its small footprint, speed for fast shooting etc., this is a poor reason for a bottleneck in the field.

I have a pile of Domke lens wraps, those may work although they are kind of large for such a small screen. I am going to keep hunting for something better, I am sure there is something out there that is more like a soft, small pouch that could just quickly be put over the screen when the camera is cased. Rob, I agree. While the screen is a joy to use and focus with, I can see in run and gun documentary shooting, having to always worrry about the screen will be a hassle. Even a small, folding integrated sunshade or lens cover might have done the trick and provided some protection. Up top, if you flip it face down, the right side of the screen rests on the little raised plastic area on the monitor arm, that provides some protection, but it's still open to dust, water, etc. Hopefully I wont have to shell out $700.00 for a replacement screen if I mess it up.

I would remove the screen and arm for travel but I tend to do a lot of shoots where we are running and gunning from interview to interview at different locations. We load into a van and roll to the next location and need to be ready to shoot quickly. This screen set up doesn't seem to be really conducive to doing that quickly and easily. I am experimenting building the camera out for different scenarios, tripod mounted/long lens b-roll, shoulder mounted interview and b-roll mode, super minimal with just the BP-A30 and the handgrip, I appreciate the flexibility in comparison to other EOS Cinema cameras, but there is still design work to be done for the C300 MKIII/C400 and even the C100 MKIII. This is decent, improved, the center of gravity being so much lower is great, I have a 177Wh V-mount battery on the Wooden Battery Plate on the back and it's perfect, with the Zacuto VCT Pro baseplate, Wooden 15mm rod to Arri Rosette, Tilta Arri Rosette Extension Arm for the grip, it's beginning to feel like an F900 on my shoulder again, big improvement from the C300/100. Now I just need to add the 18-80 T4.4 and it will work pretty well for documentary shooting. But this screen thing needs to be solved. When shooting handheld, I will probably forgo the touchscreen and will just use my Zacuto EVF Pro, locating the focus box using the GR-V1 grip like the C300 MKII. I think for me, touchscreen is going to be more of a tripod mounted tool, great for interviews and studio shooting.

While this sounds like a small problem, it is one of those pain- in- the- arse things that drive me crazy with camera manufacturers. If only all camera's were designed & manufactured by people who actually shot for a living...

You sir, have a wicked sense of humor.

Is this a joke? Only half. You have an urgent need and can't really shoot til you solve the problem so a fast if temporary solution may be of value.

I reckon kids wetsuit sock could do the trick in trendy black but these in pink will mean every PM instantly falls in love with you and your camera guaranteeing instant re bookings. You need that PM to love you before shooting 6tb that takes all night to download. You are in for a long night in the hotel together.

Let me clear I'm not joking - I've used neoprene socks for exactly tasks like this.

You could probably get Bart Simpson kiddy socks/shoes if you are not man enough to for pink

-A bright color will mean a lower chance of a bash than black.
-You may not have a wetsuit shop In your town
-you do have a kids shoe shop in your town
-various sizes available
-nothing wrong with feminising kit a bit
- gear called "weapon" "bomb" etc can be highly innapropiate in some situations
-available today for $5
-not $99 from zacuto in 2 months time
-comes with a free spare

As per MarkPVs comment a crazy solution (all over Instagram) may shame the camera makers into a decent solution next time

On another note, if you're looking for underwater protection for your C200 I found an underwater solution for my C300 Mark II which works just as well with the C200.

Not man enough? I just watched my 8 week old niece solo for two days, my baby mode came back after twenty years now that my kids are grown. It takes a real man to keep an infant fed and happy all day, not one cry in two days. I'm a big advocate of nappy bags for carrying cameras. Who is going to try to steal your expensive camera when it looks like a bag of nappys? Great trick. I actually have some lens wraps that will probably get me through until somebody comes out with something made for it or perhaps I will pick up a wetsuit sock?

I wonder if you can pre-cut a iPhone screen protector for the touchscreen? You can pay my royalties into my paypal account...thank you...:o)

You can also just attach one of the many camera bag dividers that you may have accumulated over the years. Or two dividers on each side fastening to each others velcro.
