How about a Sony HDV forum...

Re: How about a Sony HDV forum...

Dude, talk about narrow depth of focus ...

All that any of us here is suggesting is the promotion and sharing of ideas and alternative methods. No one here is advocating trying to take over the DVXuser forum and making it into a Sony or Canon forum. We all share a common interest in film making and the DVX. That is why we are here. However, like any community it doesn't hurt to "look outside of the box" for fresh ways to approach film making, whether it's from a new software package, matte box, hand held stabilizer, or yes, even a new camcorder. That's how we grow as a group.

Don't become so fixated on a brand that you refuse to consider options. If you do not want to take an active part in these types of discussions, then the alternative is pretty clear - move on to the next topic. However, don't piss on other people’s parade simply because they prefer an objective comparative analysis and thought given towards the DVX with other camera systems.

Bottom line: Allow others to make an informed decision without all the fanboy cockblocking.

Re: How about a Sony HDV forum...

Ranger my child, what is your fixation with discussing Sony here?

I think every forum member is able to navigate over to those forums to discuss their products if they're interested. If you want to sing the joys of Sony's latest, go to Sony.

There are numerable other cameras that may "compete" with the DVX, if you consider them to be both superiour, and affordable....buy one, and supply side by side comparison shots and clips, and......

Your comment of: "Bottom line:  Allow others to make an informed decision without all the fanboy cockblocking." is quite amusing, as it seems to apply to you as well...yours is not an opinion in a vaccum...

btw, lose the "dude", it gives away your age.

Gary, you might want to follow the link you posted..

Re: How about a Sony HDV forum...

I don't think it's unreasonable, or even questionable, to have forums that discuss other cameras here. I mean, we have forums for FCP, Avid, AfterEffects, etc... the way I see it, what constitutes this community is that we are all either a) DVX users, b) prospective DVX users, or c) wannabe DVX users. Further glue is lent to the community by the flock of aspiring filmmakers, who have been choosing the DVX in droves, and who are now being tempted by the fruits of the XL2 and Sony FX1.

I figure this board isn't so much about the DVX as it is about the users of the DVX (i.e., it's not DVX.com, it's DVXUser.com). And DVXUsers are going to naturally be curious about other cameras, and prospective DVX'ers are going to be doubly curious about where they should plunk down their $3000-$5000.

So I don't mind having an XL2 forum, or a Sony FX1 forum, or (as suggested above) a "new cameras" forum. I think that's certainly healthy for the user group... what we don't need is fanatical fanboy-ism from any camp, that's counterproductive to a simple search for the truth, and poison for internet discussion groups.

While I'm very optimistic and excited about the announcement of the FX1, I however, have not advocated creating a Sony forum on this website.  I only suggested the creation of a dedicated place to discuss such topics, regardless if its Sony, Canon, or JVC.

Re: How about a Sony HDV forum...

Absolutely, Barry.

And that way we all have a chance to raise our concerns, questions, issues, problems, anxieties and perceptions....about anything affecting the community on this forum....in just ONE, SINGLE forum, without the need to jump from forum to forum, to find satisfying answers.

Re: How about a Sony HDV forum...

Even if I didn't own a DVX, I'd still be browsing this forum frequently just for the entertainment value :D

Re: How about a Sony HDV forum...

I think the creation of an HD or HDV forum seems pretty reasonable. It's already a significant topic of discussion and it would be much cleaner to have all the threads consolidated. I'll ask Jarred to set it up and see what he says.

Re: How about a Sony HDV forum...

What I find in this forum is a group of professionals who were cutting edge enough to discover and adopt the usefull features of a great 24p filmlike camcorder. I do not believe for one second that once they have discovered and used that camera that they are going to sit still, close their eyes while repeating " I have the best, I have the best" . The great forum users here by their very nature "must" discuss newer technology and how that technology will affect their craft.

Re: How about a Sony HDV forum...

well said David.. and hence.. the new forum.
