How about a Sony HDV forum...

...like the XL2 News one. Right now, there's several threads spread through several forums. Just an idea. Thanks.

Re: How about a Sony HDV forum...

My personal opinion is that we should not create new forums for every camera that comes on the market. The HDV cameras are not competitive with the DVX given that they are a different format. The XL2 is a very similar camera to the DVX in terms of its format and functionality so it's appropriate to have productive conversations in the context of the DVX.

Re: How about a Sony HDV forum...

I agree with you chris24. I think there should be a separate forum for such discussions. However, instead of creating a forum for every new camera that arrives on the market, make a forum dedicated to new cameras in general. Such discussion will be geared mainly toward cameras in the prosumer category. While I do understand disjecta’s opinion against including the Sony FX1, because of its different format (HDV), nonetheless the Sony is relevant because it fits squarely within the same prosumer market as the DVX100 and the XL2.

With the arrival of the FX1, we finally have a prosumer camcorder that shoots in 1080i, has 3 x 1/3” HD 16:9 CCDs, 14 bit DXP, great optics with probable excellent low-light capability, and is competitively priced with the Panasonic and Canon. To not have a dedicated place to actively compare and discuss the Sony (or any camera for that matter) in context with the DVX would be disingenuous.

What an exciting time to be in. I can’t wait until November.

… but then again I could be wrong

Re: How about a Sony HDV forum...

How about a HDV News forum then (assuming most new cameras of interest at this point will probably be HDV.)  With the Sony camera (as opposed to the crippled JVC), the HDV format is definitely coming into it's own as a serious competitor for mini-DV.  And the Sony is probably going to be a serious competitor with the DVX. When it's released, a lot of people here might be trying to decide which to buy or whether to switch from the DVX to the Sony.  And besides, it would just make reading all the threads much easier if they were in one place.

Re: How about a Sony HDV forum...

Perhaps as this is DVXuser.com, you could go to HDVuser.com, and have them set up a forum.

I'm pretty sure this is a Panasonic site.

Re: How about a Sony HDV forum...

"I'm pretty sure this is a Panasonic site."

I don't think so.  I can't remember the thread, but I'm pretty sure Jarred said that this is his site with no official links to Panasonic when people were claiming this site was biased against the XL2 when it was first announced and released.

Anyhow, it was just an idea.  As much for convenience as anything given the interest that was shown in multiple threads.

Re: How about a Sony HDV forum...

OK, I'll simplify my point,

I'm pretty sure this is a DVX site, built by Panasonic, but in no way affiliated with Panasonic.

I would think a Sony HDV site might find a request to discuss Panasonic DVX cameras as being a little off topic.

Re: How about a Sony HDV forum...

Chris, you've discovered my point, there is no hdvuser.com for Sony users, but there is dvxuser.com for Panasonic (not affiliated) users.

Re: How about a Sony HDV forum...

"I would think a Sony HDV site might find a request to discuss Panasonic DVX cameras as being a little off topic."

I'm not asking that we discuss the Sony. There are already numerous threads on it so we're already discussing it. I just suggested putting them in one place. And Jarred already created a forum for a serious competitor for the DVX so I thought it might work to create one for a new competitor.

Anyway, I think your comments that amount to basically "go get your own website" have made your opinion on the suggestion abundantly clear. Thank you.

Re: How about a Sony HDV forum...

We can burry our heads in the sand if we want and only discuss the DVX100, which thankfully is not happening, there are several people willing to discuss HDV on this site. Creating a place for the discussion simply makes it easier for those that are interested – the discussion is happening regardless.

Regarding the relevance of the new Sony or the XL2 on this site, if you want to be successful in this, or any other, business it is a good idea to have a strong understanding of what your competition is capable of so you can position your services accordingly. I would like to know all that I can, from people’s opinions I trust about how changes in this industry might effect ME! (I’m selfish that way) ;D

I vote for a new HDV forum.

Nope, this site is not built or has any affiliation with Panasonic other than the use of one of it's camera's (DVX100). This is solely Jarred's baby.

No more off topic than including a separate forum for the XL2.

Re: How about a Sony HDV forum...

I'm pretty sure this is a DVX site ***a camera built by Panasonic***, built by Panasonic ***the camera***, but in no way affiliated with Panasonic ***who built the DVX***.

Perhaps Jared needs to rename his site for all those who wish to discuss other brands of cameras, perhaps the:

DVXUSERandotherthingstotallyunrelatedtotheDVXbutsomehowiamsupposedtomakeroomforanythingnotpanasonicdvxrelatedeventhoughthisismysite.com

Re: How about a Sony HDV forum...

People making movies on video want them to be filmlike. The DVX gives us the motion qualities of film and this new Sony promises resolution approximating film. Choosing between these two cameras is gonna be a tough call. It would be great to have a place to discuss it here.

Re: How about a Sony HDV forum...

While these discussions are amusing for all involved, they're also quite meaningless.

The owner of this site, Jarred, who is hopefully having himself quite a chuckle over this, will do exactly as he wants, whatever that may be....

I came to this site because it is a site for and about the DVX camera, for the discussion and sharing of ideas and help, to do with things DVX. Should one be interested in the latest offering from Sony, JVC, or whomever, there are better forums available to participate on.
I'm sure a link to such forums in a message would be more than sufficient.

There have been too many excellent forums destroyed because the participants decided to take over, may this not be another.

I'm sure Jarred has, or will read this thread, and will do exactly as he see's fit.

Re: How about a Sony HDV forum...

Maybe we all should just go to

www.24puser.com

If we want to know something.

I like this site but I'm tired of this love of a brand, junk.  But then again this will fall on death ears for those who don't want to hear or can't see that there is a bigger world out there beyond their room.

Re: How about a Sony HDV forum...

Perhaps you misread the name of this site Gary.....DVXuser.

If I owned a Sony, I wouldn't be on this site, I'd be on SomethingSony.com.

Seems straight forward, got a camera, find it's site, enjoy.
