hours on heads

Robbie Comeau

Como's back. back again
i checked my factory new, 100b's hours and it said around 10-11...but ive only shot maybee 2, or 3...........y is this? is it the factory that used up that extra hours?

Anytime you have a tape in the camera and it is on, the hour meter is running. So while you are setting up a shot and a tape is in the camera (even though you are not recording) the meter runs.

Why would the factory be putting 8-10 hours on your heads?

What about if the camera is set to turn off instead of standby? Will that add to the hours?

And does using the VCR Mode add to the hours?

Thanks in advance

Here is an informative thread of PM's with Jan_Crittenden, Panasonic Product Manager about the "hour meter" function. Courtesy by Jan_Crittenden:

Does it mean that with a tape inside the meter would run both, recording, VCR, standby AND shut off because of time-out?
Would it also be counting hours no matter what until it is either switched off or the tape has been removed?

Am I getting it now? (crossing fingers)

My possible buyer is confused and so it seems the whole forum is.

Some people say it records anything as long as there is a tape inside (also when the camera goes into "save modus" switched to "turn off").

Others say it's just record and VTR that adds to the meter and that playing with the camera with no tape inside do not add to the total time.

I hope you can help me so that the next user of the camera can get a realistic and fair idea of the value of the camera.

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards
