I just checked my hour meter (dvx100a) and it shows 10 hours when I've only burned through two 63 minute tapes. Yes, it's a brand new camera and no I don't use it to digitize...
Fidel et all,
i made some tests and the result was, that the DVX seems to log
head time as long as the tape is engaged in the tape mechanism,
that means not only when playing or recording but also when in pause mode.

But that couldn't possibly be 10 hours. I haven't used the camera that much. So, that is impossible.
This hour meter is a big deal on ebay let me tell you. I doubt people look at cameras over 100 hours. Because yes it is a scary fact, imagine a camera going through 4 days of continuous shooting. Seems like a scary idea. Anyway i got my baby with 60 hours i feel good.

If you want to talk about getting a deal, i have received dvx100, 60 hours on heads, four batteries (2 longlife) Panasonic Anamorphic adapter plus a filter set of three. All for 2600 shipped via fed ex second day. Did not even mess around ebay for this deal. Many thanks Brian!!!
