OK. So i'll be shooting with 3 4GB cards. In order to keep on rolling.. when and how is it OK to eject a full card? how do i know it's full and safe to eject? And when can i stick in another empty P2 card? What about those green boxes on my LCD screen ( 1 2 ) Is it seemless... can I keep the HVX powered up?

side note: i'll have an assistant take the one fully loaded P2 card and off load it onto a Powerbook with a dedicated HVX (reader).

When the card slot light is flashing AMBER, then the card is being recorded to. When it is solid green, it is clear to eject it. YOu can then immediately replace it with another card for seemless recording. We did this with a 60 min music show, five 4Gb P2 cards and a P2 Store.

You dont have to power down, can just keep rolling(even recording if there is the 2nd card inside!), just make sure you or your assistant copy-protects the P2 card until its downloaded and checked..this saves you some trouble..!

I believe the first card you insert is the first being recorded to if both are empty. The amber flashing is being recorded. solid green ready to record, flashing green full. make sure your tripod is locked down or wait for a break to extract card. I have 3 4 gig cards and this worked well.
I had a little scare when I checked the shots on a timeline. While the material still shows up as clips, it will place all the material as one continous shot.

I have Edius Broadcast, so next time on a long shoot I plan to shoot directly to the laptop.

Well, mostly it should be the first card you enter to record, however i recall that you can change that through some butoon i guess, and sometimes you are just confused or in a hurry when shoting, so make sure upfront which slot it is recording to....could help..we had some confusion one o two times, specially in stressy situations...!

Yes, you can assign the P2 slot select function to one of the user buttons. I have it assigned to button #3, I'm anal and prefer to always start recording in slot #1, letting things spill to slot #2 only if needed. I think being consistent about this will save my butt someday when things are hectic.

Just replace anal with obsessive -- same difference. Or I could provide a translation, since I'm German. (c8

So... In theory... I can start recording with freshly formatted cards and it should start on slot 1. When Slot 1 shows flashing green turn on write protect and eject. Slot 2 is now recording (amber). Once card #1 is ready to go (and formatted) stick that back in slot 1 and once card 2 stops flasing amber and is now flashing green I can eject that. Card 1 is now recording.

I'll probably have a 3rd card available for a cushion.

Actually the boxes on my HVX look like this... (while in record mode)

White F - Card is Full
Solid Green - Card is being recorded to (or positioned to be recorded onto)
Boxed Green - Card is not full.
