First many thanks to M.Gilden and the
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?240822-The-Canon-DSLR-Audio-thread
Thread. Lots of good tips in there for me.
It took me 4 tries before I could tame this
thing and get any kind of decent audio
out of my DR-07 mkII in this environment.
First it was always windy therefore the
wind noise was overwhelming for the DR-07.
Plus a lot of the noise I was attempting
to capture was similar in nature. You
indeed have to set the T3i AGC off and turn
all the way down it's external mic input,
plus then push it up one tick. Took the
headphone output of the DR-07 into the mic
input of the T3i. Set the DR-07 such that
it was always about 40%. Still on several
occasions the system overloaded. I'm not
sure if it was the DR-07 of the T3i. The
thing that made it work well enough was a
Rycote Mini Windjammer for Tascam DR-07
from B&H. It cut the wind noise down enough
but not enough to mask the rumbling of the
Hot Rods driving by. Again, I'm no
videographer but an old computer engineer
playing with some new toys.
