Hot pixels: What is the best way to find them?

My first thought on testing a new T2i for hot pixels was to shoot some video and stills with the lens cap on to get a black frame. If there were any hot pixels, my theory went, they would show up as easy-to-see white dots.

I shot short clips -- about 30 seconds each -- at ISOs of 100 through 6400. On the 6400 clip, I did notice one pixel that seemed to occasionally flicker a red color on some frames, but not all. But I did not notice any stuck white pixels. The other ISOs appeared to be clean. Which makes me think my test was not very good.

Is there a better way to test?

How common are hot pixels? I was under the impression that out of the millions of pixels, there would always be some hot ones.

Any advice much appreciated,

The video doesn't make use of the all sensor points. You need to shoot a still, long exposure with the lens cap on. It's not very common at all on short exposures, but some pixels tend to heat up when they're working for a long time.

Sorry if this is a little off-topic but I sometimes get hot/stuck pixels on my 7D when I´ve been shooting for long periods of time and/or at high ISO, especially in 720p mode. I was wondering what is the best plugin for FCP to remove stuck pixels in post?
