GH4 Horizontal noise lines in still. Do you get the same thing?

Does everyone on their GH4's get that sort of horizontal noise pattern? That is VERY bad, as uniform noise you can eliminate/hide with noise reduction while this one will still stick out.

What ISO? And did you push the exposure in post?
I try to keep ISO for stills below 3200. Yes, I've definitely pushed it in post, but not to extremes. And even with extremes those lines should not have happened. I would expect uniform noise across the image.

I'm thinking the lines may be due to sharpening, or resizing. Are the lines in the RAW file out of the camera without any processing?

Doesn't every digital stills camera from every company show lines like that if pushed far enough?
No. Even old Sony DSLR (a350) doesn't have that. Sure it's underexposed, that were conditions I was forced to take the pictures with what I had. What I've uploaded is straight from RAW to jpg - no adjustments. The problem is that with nonuniform noise even after noise reduction in post it's almost not possible to save the picture. It makes lines more visible and it looks bad. Of course it's going to be soft with NR but being uniform it makes it easier to "accept the shot".

No, you were not forced, you had options and the histogram told you of impending doom:laugh:!
A better solution was to bump ISO 2/3-1 stop in camera instead of in post. Maybe even a +2 NR in camera too, albeit not nearly as quick to get the shot as the ISO fix.

Just to be clear, I came from a Canon 60D which had less noise, but it was color noise instead of the very film-like monochromatic noise of the GH4. I will also go as far as I feel the GH4 jpegs properly exposed are better than converted Lightroom RAW files. I think LR needs some tweaks for the GH4 if you ask me.

Only with Canon sensors.

Seriously though, banding like that is rare with most modern sensors. I can't get that to happen with the GH3, though the GH4 uses a different sensor. Care to tell us exactly what you did here?

If you used Lightroom to do this, some adjustments are automatically made, including sharpening, and other color adjustments. I think the issue is underexposure as many have said. The GH4 is best exposed to the right to reduce the amount of noise in the shadows, even if this means increasing ISO. Can't go with what worked for other cameras.

Later on I will shoot some more photos for comparison, I would appreciate if someone with GH4 would try to recreate the same thing. Thanks!

Looks like you shot in very low light at a high ISO and then pushed the image too far in post trying to bring the exposure up.

I seriously doubt your camera has a defect.

To help me! :) To find out if all GH4's have that or only my unit has some defect.
how about posting some shots you took with decent exposure? Not many cameras out there that can shoot what looks like 3 stops underexposed and lifted such as the shot you posted. And it's not just Canon Yslee. It's Red, sony, panny, nikon, iPhone, oatmeal box.

Of course it was underexposed, shot in low light and higher ISO. What I wanted to now is if in same circumstances all GH4's render low light noise with horizontal lines or not.
