Horizontal banding, freaking out.

So just got my 5dmk2. Did some test with indoor florescent lighting tonight. Shot in the bathroom and kitchen (most well lit areas at the moment).

It appears at 6400iso, f2.8, at any shutter speed above 1/125, I get CRAZY banding. Like terrible terrible banding. It's not like I would shoot at those settings but is this normal aka a limitation of the camera? I never ran into this issue when using it on a wedding because I was always wide open and at 1/30 with an iso of 6400. I haven't run into this topic of the forum and any banding issue I read about pertains to still mode. I'm assuming its a high shutter combined with indoor lighting?

I'm going to return this camera tomorrow for another 5dmk2 if this isn't a normal thing. Please let me know asap guys. Gahhhhhhh

it's flicker from the lights, it's perfectly normal. You have to set a shutter speed that corresponds with the power supply in your country 50hz PAL countries 60hz NTSC countries. 1/50 or 1/100 shutter PAL 1/30 NTSC etc.

Hey thanks man. Much appreciated. Never run into that issue ever. Glad to know its normal :).

Now just to make sure I'm clear, the band is in the same exact location of the LCD. It doesn't move no matter where I move the camera.

Its perfectly normal. Scared the hell out of me when I first saw it. Thought I did something to the camera. Just shoot below 1/100. You should not get the banding. In a series of shots, you will notice the banding will move from bottom to top and vice versa.

Are some people saying they weren't seeing this level of banding with previous versions of the firmware? Just curious.

Its not just about shooting below 1/100. At certain frequencies it appears, others it doesn't. In Pal countries you should be fine at 1/30, 1/50 and 1/100 for sure.
