home theater room treatments

What room treatments can I make improve my home theater for sound quality? Not full-on audio editing suite, with near-field monitors and that sort of thing. But to push it from acceptable for home use more toward something I can use for, say, a 5.1 sanity check. If it got to it, a place I could bring a client for a reference and not feel bad about it.

What's the biggest-bang-for-the-buck, must-do wall, floor, ceiling, and/or corners kinds of things I should consider? Room is mostly 14 x 20 x 8.0 feet. It's carpeted, but this can be changed too.

Any suggestions? URLs? Books?

Auralex SonoFlat

Yes, it's a studio treatment system, but it will help immensely.

This, I can do. But... how much to use, and where to put it to make it most effective? There's got to be some how-to-use guidelines somewhere. I just haven't found them yet. I'll do (a lot) more searching before this is done, I'm sure.

There's also THIS from Auralex. Send them your room dimensions, and they'll send you an analysis of what to put where.

And HERE'S the one for home studios.
